The study area of the present project is the Underground Water System (UWS) “Larissos” of the catchment area of Peiros-Vergas-Pinios (EL02), Northern Peloponnese Water Department. The granular groundwater system of “Larissos”, covering an area of 185 km2, is coastal, extends within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Western Achaia and its status is poor (chemical and quantitative). The main pressures that the UWS receives are withdrawals for irrigation and water supply and extended on the surface due to agricultural uses. As a result of the above pressures, the water quality characteristics show increased levels of pollution of anthropogenic origin as well as the occurrence of salinization due to overexploitation.
