Recent Actions

Monitoring the impacts of climate change and overexploitation in the pilot area

  • Forecasting climate change in the pilot area for the next 40 years
  • Hydrogeological survey for the precise delimitation of the brackish zone that has intruded into the coastal aquifer
  • Monitoring the quantitative and qualitative status of the aquifer by performing chemical analyses on groundwater samples
  • Installation of special equipment in selected boreholes for continuous monitoring of the level and chemical status of groundwater

Improving the quality and quantity of groundwater in the coastal brackish zone

  • Artificial recharge in existing water intakes (e.g. boreholes).
  • Monitoring of changes in the quantitative and chemical status of the aquifer by measuring the water table level and carrying out chemical analyses on water samples.
  • Real-time monitoring of water table level and groundwater quality in selected boreholes in the brackish zone.
  • Submission of proposals to determine the minimum required level of the water table and the pumping rate of existing water intakes during periods of water scarcity
